Signs to Call for Professional Rodent Control

Rodents are notoriously good at hiding. However, there are some telltale signs that they may have taken up residence in your home or commercial building.

If you notice any of the following, call us to assess the problem and develop a solution:

  • Droppings - You may find small, pellet-shaped droppings near food sources, in cupboards, or along walls.
  • Gnaw marks - Rodents have strong teeth that they use to chew through wood, wires, and even plastic. Check for bite marks on baseboards, furniture, or electrical cables.
  • Foul odors - A musty or ammonia-like smell could indicate nesting or urine from rodents.
  • Nests - Rodents create nests from shredded paper, fabric, or plant materials. These may appear in hidden spots like closets, attics, or crawl spaces.
  • Scratching noises - Hearing scampering or scratching in walls, ceilings, or under floors is another clear indicator of unwelcome guests.

It is important to note that rats and mice can reproduce quickly and cause extensive damage to your building's most important features, from insulation to electrical wiring and wooden structures. They are also messy creatures that can contaminate food sources and pose various health hazards.

For these reasons, you should not wait to call a professional like us at the first sign of an infestation. The sooner you partner with us, the quicker you can get peace of mind.

Types of Rats & Mice in Arizona

Here are things that you should know about the most common kinds of rats and mice that you may encounter in the Scottsdale area:

Norway Rats

Often called "sewer rats," Norway rats are large rodents with brownish-gray fur and short tails. Poor climbers, they stay close to the ground and enter buildings through small openings around pipes or foundations. They are notorious for leaving behind droppings, gnaw marks, and foul odors as they nest in basements or ground floors.

Roof Rats

Smaller than Norway rats, roof rats are excellent climbers. They often nest in attics, trees, and elevated areas, making their presence known through shredded paper or fabric nests, droppings, and gnaw marks. They prefer secluded, dark areas and mainly come out at night.

Deer Mice

With light brown fur and white bellies, deer mice are small but persistent pests. They often nest near walls or warm spots indoors and feed on seeds, nuts, and fruits. Although they seem harmless, they can contaminate stored food and pose health risks.

House Mice

These agile, gray-brown mice are great climbers and are often seen near kitchens and pantries. Their diet consists of grains and kitchen scraps, and their ability to adapt to human environments makes them a common household pest.

White-Footed Mice

Smaller than other mice, white-footed mice are dark in color and feed on plant materials, grains, and fruits. They can be a rather destructive rodent, often causing various kinds of property damage.
